Biography

Written by Clair Harris Zarges.

I was born in Biddeford, Maine, on Nov. 11, 1944. (1)

When I was about three months old, my parents moved us from Maine to California, where my father worked in the shipyard in San Francisco, and we lived at Hunter's Point. When I was three, my parents were able to buy a house a block away from the beach at 1323 48th Ave., and we resided there for the next 8 years.

When I was 5, my sister, Jean Lee Harris was born. We both attended Francis Scott Key Elementary School until the family moved to Marinwood in San Rafael, across the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. Our address there was 2733 Heatherstone Drive.

I attended Mary E. Silveira Elementary School, San Rafael High School, and the University of California at Davis, where I completed two years as an English major.

My family all lived together in Marinwood until I was 21, when I married and moved to Canada.

My first job was as a library bookmobile assistant at the Marin County Library, then I worked as a library assistant in libraries in Vancouver, B.C.; Washington state; and New Hampshire. I eventually went back to school and finished my Bachelor's degree at the University of New Hampshire, and earned my Master's degree from the University of Rhode Island. From 1989 on, I worked first as a school library assistant, then as a School Library Media Specialist. I retired in 2007, when my husband and I moved to New Mexico. (2)

Hi Clair,

Just thought I'd send you a quick note. It appears we could be distantly related, but also that your great grandfather was married to my great great grandfather's sister Juliaett (or Julia) Tupper.

Howdy Clair, your GEDmatch ID A476533 is not found on GEDmatch. You may want to correct or remove it. Thank you.

I was only able to find my father and his mother together on the 1940 census. They lived with her parents. She had the last name Harris at the time.

Thanks. The Harris line is what I know the least about. Past my father I know nothing. I was told his father was Charles but I have nothing to prove it.

Any chance you have some Harris family from that spent time in the Fairfield, Ohio area?

Hi Clair!!

I have more info on Harris' to enter too!! We might be related via my mom's side of the family. I am entering all of my profiles in alpha order from my Family Tree Maker program after having already uploaded some Harris' thru a gedcom file. I am only up to the "C's" LOL I can't wait to see if we are related, would be nice to meet another "cousin" online. Have a beautiful day!
