Congratulations on your Pre-1500 badge! Thanks for all of your hard work to earn this badge. Please make sure to add pre-1500 as one of your followed tags so that you can help others with these profiles.

Regarding your suggestion of the merge of Foreman-1280 and Foreman-590, Foreman-1280 has so little data present that it is hard to justify a declaration that they are the same person. While they have the same birth place and year, the dates are 5 months apart. Death dates are A Decade apart. Confusingly, -1280 is listed with a 'married name' but no indication of the spouse.

Happy Saturday!

Since you've been with WikiTree for a few weeks, I wanted to check in and see how you were doing. The New Member How-To's are available for you to look through if you would like. I hope you find them helpful. If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, don't hesitate to ask. Click on my name above and ask in the comment section of my page.

Hi Back Ray, You have two options at WikiTree for adding family and ancestors and that is through the GEDCOMpare process or manually by adding each person one at a time. If your GEDCOM is too large (5,000) then you would need to split it up into smaller imports. I and most of us suggest you start with a small GEDCOM before doing a large one to get familiar with the process. Please check for duplicates as you create profiles manually or from GEDCOMpare as you most likely will find many ancestors already here at WikiTree.

We also have a Help Index with links to topics you may have questions on. Also found under the drop-down menu at the right top of a profile.

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Thank you, David – WikiTree Mentor

Hi Ray, Thank you for the note and GEDCOM question!

GEDCOMs are not imported, i.e. family trees are not automatically added to WikiTree. After you upload our "GEDCOMpare" tool enables you to conveniently: Compare your tree with our shared tree. We show you the most likely matches. This can be used by itself — a handy way to see if anyone in your family is already on WikiTree. Add & edit profiles on our shared tree using your GEDCOM. You add people one at a time after confirming or rejecting suggested matches.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hi Raymond,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or special event. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for volunteering! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and can start adding your family. Let me know if you have any questions.

Since WikiTree is different from other genealogy sites, we have a guided tour for new members at New Member How-To. Feel free to work through the How-Tos at your own pace.

Once you add profiles to WikiTree they become searchable and in my experience persons interested in these profiles will contact you and may provide further information to expand your family tree.

Great to have you on board, enjoy, and good luck growing your branches.

Ludwig :)

PS If links do not work in an email from WikiTree, try them from the comment section of your profile page.
