Biography

William was born about 1845. In the 1850 census William (age 5) was in Castleton, Rutland, Vermont, United States.^[1] In the 1860 census Wm (age 14) was in Castleton, Rutland, Vermont.^[2]

William served with the Union forces during the U.S. Civil War. He enlisted on 31 July 1862 at age 17 and mustered in on 1 September 1862 in Vermont. His residence was listed as Castleton, Vermont. He was with Company C, 1st Vermont Heavy Artillery,^[3] and with Company C, 11th Vermont Infantry. On 2 April 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia, he was severely wounded in his left foot, which was amputated. He mustered out on 6 July 1865. He applied for an invalid's pension on 16 September 1871 from Tennessee.^[4]

William Harrington married Victoria Gauthier on 18 April 1883 in Lansingburg, New York, United States.^[5]

William died on 4 March 1897 in Bristol, Virginia.^[6][7]
