Biography

Abigail Harlan is No. 15 in the Harlan Book.^[1], ^[2]

Richard and Abigail settled upon lands in London Grove Twp., that were afterwards willed to her by her father, the clause reading: "I Give & Bequeath to my son-in-law, Richard Flower & his Heirs forever that part of said Tract upon ye Branch of Elk River that he Dwelleth upon."^[2]

It is quite possible that Richard and Abigail settled first in Kennet Twp. The records of Kennet Meeting, "informs" that Abigail Harlan took certificate to New Garden, 6, 30, 1729.

Abigail, ye Daughter of said Michael & Dinah Harlan was born ye 23rd Day of ye 9th mo 1692 after night^[1], ^[3]
Since this date is old style calendar (before 1751), this date is interpreted as 23 November 1692, as November represents the ninth month when starting with March as month 1. Harlan provides a discussion of how to interpret the dates in a front matter section titled Explanations, after the Preface.
