Hi Colin,

Wales Project Semi-Annual Check-In

Thank you for being a member of the Wales Project. You may recall membership requires at least one contribution to project goals during each 6-month period. A contribution includes creation of and modification to Wales related profiles.

Have you been able to contribute?

To all our active members, thank you for your work.

Please consider these questions:

- Do you desire to stay on your current project team(s)?

- Which teams are you most active in?

- Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?

- Also, do you have any feedback on what the project is doing well and anything we could do better in the future?

Please respond to this message by posting a reply in Comments below or sending me a private message. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Hi Colin!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Colin, Thank you for all of your hard work during the SAT helping Team Roses clean up 4500 profiles. You did a great job getting those profiles sourced. It's a great feeling knowing how much good we did. Emma  :-)
Hi Colin,

Thank you so much for all your contributions to WikiTree in the last few months, and especially to the Wales Project. It’s been wonderful to have you as part of the project as we work together to increase the quality and quantity of Welsh Profiles.

You don’t seem to have selected which team(s) you would like to be on. Please have a look at the project page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Wales and let me know your choices so I can introduce you to your Team Leader(s). Do you have any questions? What can we do to support you? Do you want to continue in the Wales Project moving forwards?

Please can you also private message me your e-mail so I can add you to the Google group.

I see you’re not currently on the Discord server. You’d be very welcome to join us where we have live text and voice conversations which really helps with collaboration. Just let me know and I can send you an invitation.

I look forward to hearing back from you with all the above.

Thanks once again,

Olivia, Project Coordinator for Wales :-)

Hello Laura

Thanks for getting in touch. I have made a few more entries and trust that they are to the acceptable standard and protocol. There have been a couple of relatives which I am unable to locate on the bmd website and wonderifits because they are yet to be transcribed.

Kind regards Colin

Hello again.....I have another question

Am I allowed to upload The probate page from the find a will page on the uk government website for grandfather on my mother’s side. This is the document that states date and location of death Is there a copyright issue if I upload the url

Thanks in advance Col

Hi Colin,

Laura's off shift right now, so here's my response. We don't go back and check people's work, but if you have any questions about a profile you've been working on, any of us would be happy to give it a look. :)

Just a general response to the probate question: I have been doing WikiTree for quite a while, and I have noticed that public records seem to be private for about two generations. I believe that this is to try to keep our parents' data as private as possible since it is used to confirm identity in some cases. That doesn't mean that you CAN'T post it, just that you need to be careful about the privacy level and whom you allow to see the profiles. Personally, I would have no qualms about adding your maternal grandfather's probate material to his profile. At the end of the day, public records are public records.

What I'm really here for is to thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. :) Here is a link that will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree: Getting the Best from DNA.

If you need help, let me or Laura or any of the team know. Otherwise, best of luck with your research!

Hi Colin and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy.

No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point.

Take your time, keep track of sources and ask questions. Check here for tips.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing
