Biography

In the 1840 census, when Elvina would have been about 1 year old, her family's surname was spelling Harding, but in later censuses, it was spelled Harden. The census noted 3 people in the Harding family, James, his wife, and one child under the age of 5, who would have been Elvina, between the ages of 1 and 2 at the time of this census. The spelling of the surname may have evolved to Harden, but since Elvina married and took her husband's surname, her maiden name would have remained the same and not changed with the rest of her birth family members.
