Nicholas Hardcastle was born in Northumberland, England.

Nicholas was born about 1832.^[1]

Nicholas lived with his wife Mary at 5 Ravensworth Terrace, Newcastle upon Tyne, England after they were married. Newspaper articles used in the BBC television program about the house, 'A House Through Time', chronicled Nicholas's work as a medical officer in the Union Workhouse, Elswick, to which he was appointed age 21. He failed to respond adequately to an outbreak of illness at the workhouse, yet was appointed Prison Surgeon for Newcastle in 1859.

He passed away in 1906.
