Samuel was a widow when he married Emma and the father of a daughter Gracie. It is unknown at this time his previous wifes name. Possibility that her surname was Lanning.

GRACIE L HANSON was born on 17 Sep 1888 in Maryland. She died in Jan 1978 in Westminster, Carroll, Maryland (Age at Death: 90). She married Harry Edward Mahoney on 09 Dec 1912. He was born on 24 Sep 1884 in Maryland. He died in 1941 (Age at Death: 57).

Samuel's father was killed in the Civil War and he recieved his fathers pension[4]
In 1924 He recieved a pension for the Spanish American War[5]. According to the Spanish American War Veteran's Compensation File.March 22, 1934[6] He was in Company C 2nd Regiment Pa Volunteers. Like many of the Hanson family he worked in the paper mills.
