Journal and Life Story of Hans Peter Hansen. Compiled by Don “H” Smith, 1973 “I Hans Peter Hansen was born in Hjortslev Otterup Sogn Odense Amt on the Island of Fyen in Danmark Europe. My Fathers name was Hans Hansen born in the same Town. My Mothers name was Ane Kjirstine Pedersen born in Søndersø Veierslev Sogn Odense Amt. My Father was born on the 5th of June 1818. My Mother was born the 11th of November 1811 [3 November 1806]. They were both poor and as such they did not receive but a limited education. they lived a short time after thier marage at my Grandfathers [Hans Christensen's] Place in Hjortslev. my Father had learned the Weavers trade in his Boyhood. In the year 1843 they moved from Hjortslev to a small town named Egense in Norup Sogn about 2 miles from thier former Recidents. They had 4 Children born to them 3 Boys and 1 Girl. The oldest was Girl by name of Karen Marie. she was born in Hjortslev May 23rd 1841. she lives at present paa (at) Ugerslev Mark pr (c/o) Kappendrup Station. The next was Hans Peter Hansen. he now lives at Hyrum Cache County Utah. he was born September 25th 1843. The other 2 died when Infants. ...." [Niels was born 8 Jan 1846 and died 10 Mar 1847. The other son was listed in the church records as born dead 23 Mar 1849.]

In 1860 Hans Peter Hansen was with a big farmer by name of Elias Moeller - place Eliasminde (close to where H.P.H. was raised)
“1861 In the fall I left that farmer and hired out to a Dyer by name of Hvalrø in the City of Odense (‘a City of about 30,000 Inhabitants’) about 12 miles from my home
“1862 On the 1st of April I left that place and went to work for a small farmer by name of Langkilde lidt uden side of Town (just outside of town) and I worked for him 6 months
“1862 At the 1st day of November I changed places and hired out to a Baker by name of Christensen in Vestergade Odense with the intention of learning the trade
