Mary Ann Hannan married John McQuin or McQuinn, in 1867 in Dunedin.
He died in 1873 and she remarried the widower, Alex Rintoul in 1875 only to have him die in a riding accident 3 yrs later.
As he was a drinker and probably a hot tempered man by all accounts and also seemed to not be able to manage his finances, she was probably better off without him, sadly. Mary Ann was obviously a strong enough minded lady to stand up to him. She even dared to report him to the police for "threatening language", a charge which must have later been dropped as they did get together again afterwards. Alex was probably also suffering from depression at this stage as his son to his first wife had totally cut him off , throwing away all his father's letters unopened. He had decided to go back to Scotland just before his first wife died but never got that far, going to pieces when she died.
Mary died in 1917.[1]
Mary was born about 1837.
