William Hann was born in Wiltshire, England.

In 1841, William was living in Wiltshire with his parents, two brothers and a servant.[1]
William Hann wed Mary Burge Hearn in Melbourne on 3 November 1859 .[2]
They had:
- Louisa
- Elizabeth.
William became an explorer in Northern Queensland, and his expedition of 1872 found the first indications of the Palmer River Goldfield in Cape York.[3]
William Hann, of Maryvale Station, passed away in 1889, when he drowned while swimming in Cleveland Bay at Townsville, North Queensland.[4]
