John was born in 1881. He was the son of John Hankins and Glendora Glass. He passed away in 1950.

John Penn Hankins, age 69 years, residence 222 Club Drive, died in a local hospital Jan. 26, 1950. He was a native of Kerr County, had lived in San Antonio for 52 years and worked as a painting contractor. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillian Hankins; daughter Mrs. Charles Arthur Shearer and grandson Charles Robert Shearer of Pandora, Ohio; sister Mrs. Jessie T. (Winona) King of Corpus Christi; brothers Archie and Wayne Hankins of Burlingame, California.
Funeral services will be held Friday Jan. 27th at 3:30 p.m. at McCollum's chapel with Rev. Grover Lee officiating. Interment will be in Confederate Cemetery under direction of McCollum's Funeral Directors.
