Richard Hankin Dies in Hospital
Consulting Engineer Ill Six Months - Rites Tomorrow
Richard Hankin, a resident of Passaic since 1903, passed away at noon yesterday at the Passaic General Hospital after an illness of six months. He was born in Farnworth, Lancashire, England, July 15, 1870, the son of William and Susannah Hankin. The family came to this country in 1874, residing first in Rome and then in Watertown, New York, where Mrs. Hankin received his elementary education.

In Watertown he was associated with the New York Air Brake Company and Moffett Hodgkins and Clark Water Works, Engineers and contractors. He came to New York City in 1891 and entered Cooper Union, graduating from the Mechanical Engineering Course. He later returned to study the scientific course. During this time he was associated with Frank Dobson and Wells and Newton, general contractors, in the furnishing and installing of building machinery equipment specializing in power plants and heating and ventilating. Since 1900 he has been associated in business with his brother as the firm of John Hankin and Brother, consulting engineers, with office and shop at 228 Cherry Street, New York City.

Mr. Hankin was a member of the First Congregational Church of Passaic: Astor Lodge, No. 623, F and A M. New York City: American Chapter, No. 215, R. A. M. New York City: Washington Commandery, No. 21, Knights Templar, Passaic: Salaam Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S. Newark: the Building Trades Employers Association Club, New York City; New York Professional Engineers; American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers; American Society of Engineers.

Mr. Hankin married Miss Nina Maltby, of Pulaski, New York August 8, 1894, who survives him, also two daughters, Mrs. Sidney A. Riley, Jr. of Rutherford, and Mrs. E. Lester Congdon, of Bloomfield, two brothers, John Hankin, of Passaic, and Dr. Walter E. Hankin, of Bisbee, Arizona; six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Buell Gallagher at the Hankin residence, 279 Main Avenue, tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock. Interment will be Thursday morning in the Ridgelawn Cemetery.
