Elisabeth's maiden name is Hanken. Her son Gerhard's wedding records lists her maiden name. She married Eilerd/Eilert Engelbart in Rastede, Germany on August 6, 1852. The couple had four children, Eilert, Diederich, Gerhard, and Anna Margarethe Elise Engelbart.
Elisabeth is buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pender, Thurston, Nebraska.
