Biography

Lucille Handy was born on August 06, 1912 in Underwood, North Dakota. Her parents were Lester Handy and Anna Hassler.

She married Freeman Tifft on October 30, 1938.

She died on November 17, 2006 in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Obituary

Lucille Ann Tifft, 94, formerly of Mandan, peacefully went to meet her Savior Nov. 17, 2006, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Bismarck Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Larry Giese officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Lucille Ann Handy was born Aug. 6, 1912, in Underwood, to Lester and Annie (Hassler) Handy. She attended elementary school and high school in Underwood. After high school, Lucille interned and worked as a beautician at the Wave Nook Beauty Salon, in Bismarck.

Lucille was united in marriage to Freeman Charles Tifft on Oct. 30, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. She was content to be a wife and mother until her children were in high school and college. She then joined Montgomery Wards as a department manager until her retirement in 1974.

A talented lady, she excelled as a musician and artist. She spent many hours playing the piano and organ and creating paintings that will be forever treasured by her family and friends. Lucille enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing and was involved with circle and quilting at First Lutheran Church, Mandan. Lucille was an active member of BAGA and the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center auxiliary.

Lucille is survived by a daughter, Pamela (William) Helphrey, Bismarck; and a son, Charles (Victoria), Mandan; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Tim) Kramer and Scott Helphrey, both of Bismarck, Rick Tifft, Tampa, Fla., and Michael (Martha) Tifft, Babbitt, Minn.; six great-grandchildren, Samantha and Courtney Kramer, and Joseph, Rebekah, Sarah and Collin Tifft.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

The family would like to thank the staff of Marion Manor, Glen Ullin, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, and Dr. Robert Tanous for their patience and loving care of Lucille.
