Paul was the son of John Hamilton and Mary Grimball of Edisto Island, Colleton County, Province of South Carolina.[1] He inherited and acquired land on Edisto Island and James Island and served in the Commons House of Assembly in 1720-21.[2]
He married Martha Bower, daughter of William Bower and Martha Hext, and they had children Paul, Martha (m. Rev. John McLeod), John, Archibald, and Dorcas.[2]
Paul Hamilton's Will, on which the date is missing, was proved 7 March 1738/9. He mentions his sons Paul, John, and Archibald, daughters Martha and Dorcas, and nephew Paul Wilkins. He left a bequest to the Presbyterian Church at Wiltown, and the church at Edisto Island.[3]

"As a member of the US Black Heritage Project, I have added categories and a list of the slaves owned by Paul Hamilton Sr. on this profile with categories using the standards of the US Black Heritage Exchange Program. This helps us connect enslaved ancestors to their descendants. See US Black Heritage: Heritage Exchange Program for more information."
Thanks for the addition, David. I note, however, that the ancestry source you cite seems to be the same Will as the Family Search citation (source #3), which is easier to access.
There is no question that FamilySearch is easier for users to access, being free. But I much prefer the Ancestry.com search interface. Best world = use both. But when I am researching, I constantly have to ask myself how deep to go on a particular person or item of interest before moving on.
