Orange Wilder Halstead was born on November 2, 1876[1] in Colfax, Colfax County, Nebraska. His father was Orange Billings Halstead and his mother Martha "Mattie" Jane Campbell.[2]

Orange grew up in a sod dug out in Nebraska. before moving to Iowa. Sometime around 1895, he settled in Davis City, Decatur County, Iowa. There he started a store for watch repair and engraving.[3]

Orange enlisted in the Army as a private on June 13, 1898 during the Spanish American War.[4] He was assigned to the 51st Regiment, Iowa Infantry.[5] Within days of his enlistment, he was sent to Camp Merritt in San Francisco, California. While he was still in California, Spain reached an armistice with the United States ending the war.[6] He was discharged on December 18, 1898.[7]

Orange married Lenna Alice Cummings on February 12, 1899 in Decatur County, Iowa.[8] After his marriage, he settled in New Buda, Decatur County, Iowa. He worked as a clock repairman.[9]

In 1910, he lived on Myers Street in Ophir, Butte County, California. He owned and operated a Grocery Store.[10]

In 1920, he lived on Bird Street in Oroville, Butte County, California. He worked as an orthodontist.[11]

In 1930, he still lived on 412 Pine Street in Oroville, Butte County, California. He owned his own home valued at $12,000 and worked as an optometrist in the jewelry industry.[12]

In 1940, he lived at 1536 Bird Street in Oroville, Butte County, California. Sometime before 1940, Orange divorced his wife Lenna, and remarried a Beryl J. Mitchell. He lives with his mother and new wife. He works as a jeweler and employs other to work for him.[13]

Orange died on February 21, 1953 in Oroville, Butte County, California. He was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oroville, Butte County, California.[14]
