Biography

Gloria (Hallward) Grahame is Notable.

Academy Award winning actress who won the award for her supporting role in "The Bad and the Beautiful". She was known for playing damaged, flirtatious, and sexy roles, often as a fim noir siren type, and when she took the part in Oklahoma! in 1955 as an ignorant country girl, audiences turned away from her and her career began to wane.

She was known to seek surgery to enhance her beauty, which ended up causing her some paralysis of her upper lip and other issues. She had limited success in her personal life, with a short marriage to Stanley Clements, a longer one to Nicholas Ray that ended when she slept with her 13 year old step son, another short marriage to Cy Howard, and finally her scandalous marriage to the step son who had broken up her previous marriage.

She died of breast cancer after trying to hide her illness from her family. She was flown from England to New York and hospitalized, but died only a few hours after arriving. She was buried in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Chatsworth, California.
