Born in Newcastle NSW, Australia in 1898, James Gordon Halliday was the son of Joseph Halliday and Margaret Allen

Mr. Gordon Halliday, was Assistant District Secretary of the Miners' Federation. He left this position in 1926, when he was appointed a member of the New South Wales Workers' Comprensation Commission. ^[1]

Gordon married Nellie Elliott in Newcastle in 1919 ^[2]

The couple had one son and several daughters

He was a pupil at the Newcastle High School, and the news of his death aroused wide spread sympathy,.
