Biography
James was born about 1808, details unknown. There were numerous men named James Halliday, with virtually no way to tell them apart!
The first-known record shows that he married Agnes Clazy in 1869 at St. Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh (records show her surname variously as Clasy, Clazy, Clezy; spelling was inconsistent.)
They had at least one child, Alexander Halliday, born in 1888. And after that? No later records found...
He appears to have died in 1875 and was buried at Edinburgh. The only means of establishing identity is a tombstone at Grange Cemetery, Edinburgh, which mentions his wife and other family members.
