Biography

Frederick Hallett ...

Frederick's border crossing with wife Ellen in 1927 lists his place of birth as Chiselborough, UK. I have used this as his place of birth. <There is another family history that states Frederick is from Weymouth, Dorset, England. As I have seen no documents, I tend to reject this for geographical reasons. Al Langdon, Fred's best friend, was from Yeovil. Distance to Weymouth is over 30 miles, where Chiselborough is 7 miles.

There is a family picture of Fred Hallett standing next to a tombstone he erected for his parents William and Mary Ann. The tombstone reads as follows: "In loving memory of William Hallett who died 5th June 1879 aged 41 years, also Mary Ann wife of the above who died 16th of April 1911 age 70 at rest. This stone was erected by their son Frederick Hallett of Michigan, USA."

The family does not know what cemetery the tombstone was erected in. Can anyone help with this? Update on 2/19/2014 -- help came from Ursula Martin (thank you so much!!) through the Somerset and Dorset Family History Facebook page. Read on...

According to the National Burial Register, William Hallett was buried on 6/9/1879 at the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Chiselborough, Somerset.
