Biography

Census records for 1851 and 1861 give Stephen's birth year as 1785 and 1788 respectively, in Sturry, near Canterbury. His death record says he was born in 1782. He was baptised on 14 Sept 1789 at Saint Mary Magdalene, Canterbury, Kent, parents Stephen Holladay and Frances Gravener,^[1]

He married Mary Longbottom on 2 Nov 1805 in Whitstable, Kent.^[2] They had four known children; Stephen, b.1807; Thomasina, b.1816; Ann, b.1817 and Edward, b.1829.

In 1851 he was a farm labourer living at Wheatsheaf (a pub??) in Sturry, with Mary and their son Edward, now 26, also a farm labourer.^[3]

Stephen died in Swalecliffe, Whitstable and was buried on 26 May 1868.^[4]
