George Buttle Halladay was born on November 9, 1819 in Elgin, Rideau Lakes, Leeds and Grenville, Ontario. He was the son of Eben Halladay and Jane Leggett (1797–1827). He married Catherine Guthrie. He lived in Brant Township, Bruce, Ontario, Canada in 1871. He passed away on May 31, 1899 in Amabel Township, Bruce, Ontario, Canada.
