Biography

Nettie (Hall) Daniels is a part of US Black heritage.

Nettie was born about 1884. She was the daughter of Balaam Hall and Chelsey Fort Hodges.

Nettie Hall (age 22) married Calvin Reed (abt.1854-1910) (age 40) on 30 January 1902 in Wayne, North Carolina, United States.^[1] Nettie and Calvin had six children.

In the 1910 census Nettie (age 27) was the wife of Calvin Reed in Pikeville, Wayne, North Carolina. Their five children were living with them in the household.^[2]

Calvin died in 1917.

Nettie (age 36), daughter of Baalam Hall & Chelsey Hall, married Alex Daniel (age 56) on 12 January 1919 in Wayne, North Carolina, United States.^[3] Nettie and Alex had five children.

In the 1920 census Nettie (age 36) was the wife of Alex Daniel in Wayne, North Carolina. There were five children living in the household.^[4]

In the 1930 census Nettie (age 45) was the wife of Alex Daniel, Sr, Sr in Stoney Creek, Wayne, North Carolina, United States.^[5]

Alex died before 1940.

In the 1940 census Nettie (age 58) was the widowed head of household in Saulston Township, Wayne, North Carolina, United States.^[6]

In the 1950 census Nettie (age 69) was a widowed mother of Alex Daniels in Goldsboro Township, Wayne, North Carolina.^[7]

Nettie (age 91) died on 29 February 1976 and was buried on 6 March 1976 in Wayne, North Carolina, United States.^[8]

Nettie was mentioned on a memorial in Forte Cemetery, Eureka, Wayne County, North Carolina, United States with a death date of 29 February 1976.^[9]

Research Notes

• Nettie's parents were Balaam Hall and Chelsey Fort Hodges. They need more research. See 2nd marriage record and death record for a start.
• There is a 1900 U.S. Census record that could be Chelsey with her children.^[10] The children match up in general, but birth years are off. Chelsey was recorded as Margaret if this is their record.

• The 1902 marriage record citation shows "Wake" County, NC. This is an incorrect entry. Wayne County, North Carolina is correct and is shown on the header page of the microfilmed pages of marriage records at the FamilySearch link for the record.

• Some of the children's appropriate biological parent connections need research.
• Nettie's oldest child with her second husband, Daniel, Ardelia, overlaps in age with her youngest child with Calvin. Possibly, that child was the child of Daniel's first wife but always referred to Nettie as her mother. Or other possibilities.

• A son born about 1930 has not been identified beyond his appearance on the 1940 U.S. Census.
