Thomas was born in 1836, the son of Walter Hall and Elizabeth Skarratt.[1]

In the 1851 census Thomas (age 14) was the son of Walter Hall in Kington, Herefordshire, England.[3]
He migrated to Australia in 1854, where he lived in Rockhampton. There he took a position as an accountant at the local Australian Joint Stock Bank. Within three years he had become manager of the Rockhampton branch.
Thomas was one of the original owners of the Mount Morgan mine, the first chairman of the Mount Morgan company, and served as one of its directors since its founding.
He married Jane Kirk in 1877[4] and together they had three sons.
Following his retirement in 1887, he lived for a time in Melbourne before returning to England. He purchased Weeting Hall in Weeting, Norfolk and did many renovations to the estate.
Thomas passed away in 1903.[5][6][7]
