Biography
Allen Haley (1844-1900) = Annie M Smith (1844- 1880)
Alllen was born on 31 Jan 1844 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
He received his primary & secondary education at Yarmouth NS.
In 1866 he graduated from a dental college in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
In 1868 he started a dental practice in Windsor NS, Nova Scotia, Canada.
By May 1869 he was married in Windsor NS to Anne Smith.
He gave up his dental practice & commenced a career selling insurance & acting as a shipping broker, manager & part owner for his wife's family business.
He was a director of the Nova Scotia Telephone Co, Halifax Electric Tram service, Halifax NS.
In 1880 construction of his mansion at Windsor was finished. The massive edifice was burned in The Great Windsor Fire of 1897.
From 1882-1891 he was a member for Hants Co in Nova Scotia Legislature. In 1891 he failed to obtain a seat in the Canadian federal election. From 1896- 1900, he was elected & served in the Canadian House of Commons for the riding of Hants County.
He died on 23 Apr 1900 at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, while still a member of the Canadian Parliament. [1]
