1914 WW 1

Herbert served in World War he was a Lieutenant in the Yorkshire Regiment - Sir John Cass Technical Institute. He attended the University of Lodon Officers Training Corps. In June 1916 he was gassed and invalided . [4]

1916 Marriage

Herbert (26) married Lilian Dorothy Holt (22) (born in 1893 in Hackney, Middlesex, England; daughter of William Joseph Holt and Adelaide Valentine) in 1916 in Hackney, Middlesex.[5] Their son was Bernard Arnold Hale (1917–2003).

1917 Death

Lieutenant Herbert Charles Hale died on 2 November 1917 in Houthulst, West Flanders, Belgium, aged 28 of wounds received near Ypres on 29 October 1917 he is buried at Dozinghem.[6]
