David Halberstam was the son of Charles and Blanche Levy Halberstam. He was a journalist and historian, and a giant on the subject of the United States involvement in Vietnam, particularly during the presidential administration of John F. Kennedy.
His father Charles was a surgeon and served in the United States Army. He moved from post to post throughout World War II, taking the family in tow. [1][2]
He married his second wife, Jean Sandness Butler, in 1979.[3]
