It is all but certain that Emily Hadley was the second wife of Augustus A. Trumbull, after the death of his first wife in June, 1870. The 1900 U.S. census shows Emily Trumbull, widowed, living with her youngest brother, Alba Hadley. The name and age match a brother shown on censuses when she was single and living with her parents as Emily Hadley. However, a marriage record would be helpful in getting to 100%. So far, I have seen no such record.

At the marriage date given in individual genealogies, Augustus would have been about age 51, and Emily about 38. I have seen no record of children by this marriage. Augustus was the father of at least 12 children by his first marriage.

• Source: S6 New York, State Census, 1875. Shows her as Emma, age 40 (est. birth 1835), with husband Augustus Trumbull, age 54. Three children, ages 10 to 16 in household. Family living in Town of Bradford (now Town of Bath, called township in most states). Shows her born Steuben County. Enumerated 10 Jun 1875 (some information from document image).

• Source: S7 U.S. Census, 1880. Enumerated 5 & 7 June, 1880. Surname misspelled "Turnbull." Shows Augustus, age 60, Emily, age 46, son Daniel H., age 21, and Augustus' widowed mother, age 89. Gives Emily and her mother born NY, her father born New Hampshire. Augustus and son Daniel still farming. This shows them living in the village of Bradford, but it seems likely this is still the same farm as earlier censuses, located near the unincorporated hamlet of Sonora, about 4 miles (7 km) southwest of Bradford. • Source: S8 New York, State Census, 1892. Enumerated 16 Feb 1892. Shows Augustus, age 71 (est. birth 1821), Emily ("Emilie"), age 60 (est. 1832). Shows them still living in Town (aka township) of Bath, Steuben county.

• Source: S9 U.S. Census, 1900. Enumerated 26 Jun 1900. Shows her widowed, age 71, born Aug 1829, living with her younger brother, Alba Hadley. Shows her as mother of 1 child, none living. It is possible she had a child with Augustus, which died young. It is also possible this was a child by an unknown (to me) earlier marriage. I have seen evidence for neither.
