Biography

New Zealand
Helen (Haddon) Williams lived in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand.

Helen Catherine Haddon was born on 17 January 1914, the daughter of Frederick Haddon and Lilly Bland Elrick.

In the 1935 NZ Electoral Rolls Helen was recorded living at 13 Maungawhau Road, SE 1, Auckland East, a spinster.

At the age of about 27 Helen married 26 year old Sydney Lanfear Williams in 1941. They had two children; a daughter and then a son.

When the Second World War broke out her husband Sydney was called up. He served as a Private in the 24th Battalion "C" Company, Second New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. Helen was recorded as his next of kin; she was living at 33 Torrance Street, Epsom, Auckland.

In the 1943 NZ Electoral Rolls Helen was recorded living at 63 Bassett Road, Remuera, Auckland, a married woman.

Tragically her husband Sydney was Killed in Action on 17 March 1944 in Second Battle of Monte Casino in Italy. He was 29 years old. He was buried in Cassino War Cemetery in Italy (Grave Reference VI. C. 21).

Helen was left a widow with two young children. She then married Syd's younger brother Robert "Bob" as apparently Syd had told Bob that if anything happened to him, he was to look after Helen.

Helen and Bob also had two children together; Graeme and John.

Her second husband Bob died on 1 October 1989.

Helen spent her last days at Rossendale Rest Home in Hamilton, Waikato and passed away on 22 June 2000 at the age of 86. She was buried at Hamilton Park Cemetery, Hamilton, Hamilton City, Waikato[1]. PLOT: GOM-M-334
