Biography

Terry Edmund Haddock, 65, Was a 1961 graduate of Coffee High School where he was Mr. Coffee High, class president, and co-captain of the Coffee High School Yellow Jackets football team. He excelled in football, basketball, swimming, and track. He was a Boys State representative and on the All-State football team. He received a full athletic scholarship to Georgia Tech where he was a football letterman for the Yellow Jackets in 1963, 1964, and 1965, under the coaching of the legendary Bobby Dodd. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and later played for the Canadian Football League. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Management and then played United States Naval Football for the Pensacola Goshawks. He began his professional career in the aluminum industry with Phelps Dodge Aluminum which later became Consolidated Aluminum Corporation, where he was plant manager in Carbondale, Illinois, City of Industry, California, and Columbia, Tennessee. He returned to Florence in 1983, where he became Vice President of Investments with A.G. Edwards and Sons. He was a member and past chairman of the board of the First United Methodist Church of Florence, past president of the Quad Cities Quarterback Club, member of the Florence Rotary Club, commissioner of the Florence Housing Authority, member of the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club and was inducted to the Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the Times Daily All Sports Milllennium Team. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Haddock. He is survived by his wife, Susan Haddock; children, Jennifer King and husband, Brent, of Decatur, Brian Haddock and wife, Kendra, of Birmingham, and Andy Haddock of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Madeline, Brent and Susan King, of Decatur; father, Gertha Haddock; brothers, Spencer Haddock and wife, Dorcas, of Falls Church, Virginia, Stacey Haddock and wife, Angie, of Madison; brother-in-law, Bob Young and wife, Judy; sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Young of Florence; and several loving nieces and nephews. A graveside service for the family and friends will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Florence City Cemetery, followed by Terry's celebration of life and memorial service at First United Methodist Church sanctuary at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gary Formby and the Rev. Bob Murray officiating. The family will receive friends in McDowell Hall immediately after the memorial service. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of A.G. Edwards and Sons, and the members of the Florence Rotary Club. Terry's family would like to thank Dr. Martin Heslin, Dr. Lyman Mitchell, Dr. Gerald Haggstrom, and Dr. Robert Webb for their loyal care and support. If you wish, expressions of sympathy may be made in loving memory of Terry Edmund Haddock to the First United Methodist Building Fund or to the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Research, 1824 6th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35203. Terry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. He was a friend to all and leaves behind a wonderful legacy for his family and many endearing friends.
