Research Note
Disconnected Thomas West Gary (1839-1869) as father because according to her brother's (Thomas Gary Hadden) death certificate, his father's name was Thomas G. Hadden. Also, Lucy and her brother were born in Greenville, SC, where their mother was born and lived all her life. In contrast, Thomas West Gary was born and died in Gary, Newberry, SC, which is over 60 miles away from Greenville. It is highly unlikely that he had a family with Sophia (a former slave) and two children in Greenville, SC. The third sibling, Mary E. "Mamie" (Hadden) Williams (born 1872), [2] was born three years after Thomas West Gary had died. Concluded that FindAGrave must be wrong about Lucy's father.
