Biography

John Hadden was born in March 1891 in Dunmore, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Bruce and Bridget (McGarry) Hadden.

John married Mabel Doria Minton about 1911. They were residing in Edmonton East, Alberta, Canada in 1916. John's household that year included the following: John (self), age 25; Mabel, wife, age 22; Pearl, daughter, age 4; John Bruce, son, age 3; Alexander William, son, age 1; and Daniel, son, age 5 months. Note: Son John Bruce's records confirm his birth date as March 18, 1913, and Alexander William's birth date as Nov. 23, 1914 and their birthplace as Pocahontas, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada

By 1921, John and family had removed to Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. Their household included Pearl, John Bruce, Alexander William, and Daniel. John's work was described as coal mining.

John passed away in 1940 in Edson,Yellowhead, Alberta, Canada. He is buried at the Glenwood Cemetery. He is recognized with engraving on his headstone as a "Pipe Major" for his WWI military service in the 49th & 42nd Battalions CEF. At the top of his headstone are the digits 100599, which indicate John's military Reg. # as also noted on his Canadian Attestation papers, validating that the John Hadden who was born on March 6, 1891, husband of Mabel, and son of John Hadden is the same John Hadden, who died on December 3, 1940 in Edson and is buried at the Glenwood Cemetery.
