Biography
John Hadden was born in Ireland about 1839. This vital information was extracted from the 1861 Scotland Census. Young John (age 22) was a boarder with a family located in Auchinleck, Ayrshire, Scotland where he was an iron miner.
John married Mary Jane Bruce on June 12, 1863 in Auchinleck, Ayr, Scotland. They had seven (7) children as follows:
- 1) James, b. Jan. 16, 1864
- 2) John, b. abt. 1865
- 3) Mary, b. abt. 1867
- 4) Jane (aka Jean, Janet), b. abt. 1868
- 5) Alexander, b. Abt. 1870
- 6) Samuel B., b. March 18, 1872
- 7) Martha, b. April 1, 1874
Except for James, 1st born, John and Mary Jane's children were born in Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.
John passed away on December 7, 1873. Mary Jane was pregnant with their last child, Martha, at the time of his death. John is buried at the Auchinleck Old Churchyard, Auchinleck, East Ayrshire, Scotland. Mary Jane erected a headstone at the Old Churchyard in memory of her husband.
