PROMINENT MAN KILLED SUNDAY BOWIE GWYNN THROWN FROM HORSE. Was Admitted to the Bar in 1904 Survived By His Wife and Two Children
J. B. Gwynn, probably the most prominent young member of the Spartanburg bar and one of the most popular young men of Spartanburg, was almost instantly killed at 9:40 o'clock last night when he was thrown from a horse he was riding. There were no eyewitnesses to the accident, which took place on the National highway between Camp Wadsworth and the city. A military policeman, riding in a motorcycle sidecar, caught the horse after the incident happened and began a search, with the result that he found Mr. Gwynn in the road in an unconscious condition. The injured man was placed in the motor car and rushed to the base hospital at Camp Wadsworth, but expired about the time the hospital was reached. He did not regain consciousness.
An examination of the body reveals the fact that Mr. Gwynn suffered a fracture of the skull, indication being that he struck the earth on the back part of his head, suffering a blow sufficient to cause fatal results. There were a few abrasions on the face and one blow above the eye.
Sunday afternoon Mr. Gwynn secured a horse from a friend with the intention of visiting his farm, which is Just on the edge of the city. He went to the farm and spent the afternoon there and was returning in the evening. He was stopped by a traffic policeman of the military force at the point where the National hlghway is closed and was told that he could not return to the city by that route. He wheeled his horse and rode away, and it was but a few minutes later that the riderless animal was caught.
The body was brought to the J. F. Floyd Undertaking parlors last night, where it Is being held pending tne completion of funeral arrangements, which have not yet been made.
