Biography

Salvatore Guglielmini is born 15 July 1883 in the second official district of Palermo, the son of Pietro Guglielmini and Nunzia Vella.[1]

On the SS Republic sailing from Palermo on 14 June 1906 and arriving in the port of New York on 29 June:

29. Salvatore Guglielmini, 19 (b. 1887), single, barber, last permanent residence in Cefalu’, bound for Baltimore, MD, paid his own way, joining cousin Salvatore Citrano at 518 Columbia Av, Baltimore.[2][3]

Salvatore marries Marian Morici. They have nine known children: Salvatore (c. 1907), Guglielmo Giuseppe/Joseph (c. 1910), Nancy (c. 1913), John (c. 1923), Concetta (c. 1924), Frank (c. 1925), Providence (1928), and two daughters named Marian (1929 and 1932).

Salvatore, Guglielmo Giuseppe, Nancy, and John were born in Italy, and the younger children were born in Brooklyn, New York.

Two of his sons, Guglielmo Giuseppe, 12 (b. 1910), and Salvatore, 15 (b. 1907), arrive with their maternal aunt on the SS Argentina in November 1922. They leave their grandmother, Concetta Morici, in Palermo, and join their father, Salvatore Guglielmino, at 347 E. 105th St. in New York City.[4]

According to the record of her death in July 1930, Marian is born in October 1929. The indexed version says she was born on the 19th but the original certificate at the DORIS website has a question mark for the day.

In the 1930 federal census of Brooklyn, AD 16, taken 7 April, Salvatore Guglielmini, 47 (b. 1883), heads a household at 414 Ave Y with his wife Marian, 38 (b. 1892), and children Salvatore, 22 (b. 1908), Joseph, 21 (b. 1909), Nancy, 17 (b. 1913), John, 7 (b. 1923), Concetta, 6 (b. 1924), Frank, 5 (b. 1925), Providence, 1 yr 8 mo. (b. Aug 1928), and Marian, five months (b. Dec 1929). Salvatore and his wife and the four oldest children were born in Italy, and the four younger children were born in Brooklyn. John emigrated in 1923 and his parents and older siblings in 1920. Salvatore and his sons Salvatore and Joseph are butchers.[5]

Marian dies on 9 July 1930 from bronchopneumonia. Her home address is 414 Ave Y, Brooklyn. Her father is the informant. She is buried in Calvary Cemetery on 11 July.[6][7]

Salvatore Guglielmini and his brother-in-law, Francesco Castellana, are both active in the Gambino crime family of New York City.[8][9]

In the 1940 federal census of Brooklyn, Peter and Salvatore Guglielmini head households at the same address.

Peter Guglielmini, 37 (b. 1903), heads a household at 50 Bay 40 St with his wife, Catherine, 38 (b. 1902). Both born in Italy. At home are their children Marion, 12, Salvatore, 11, Christina, 10, “Catherni” [Catherina], 8, and Nancy, 4, all born in NY. Peter is a butcher for a meat market.

Salvatore Guglielmini, 54 (b. 1886), heads a household at 50 Bay 40 St with his wife, Marion, 48, both born in Italy. At home are children Concetta, 17, John 18, Frank, 15, Providence, 11, and Marion, 10. John was born in Italy and the rest of the children were born in NY. Salvatore is a truck driver for a meat market.[10]

Salvatore Guglielmini registers for the draft for WWII on 26 April 1942. He lives at 50 Bay 40 St. Brooklyn, Kings, NY. He is 59, born in Italy on 15 July 1883. Contact is Frank Castellano at 56 Bay 40 St, Brooklyn. His employer is at 2077 Fulton St., Brooklyn, NY. Salatore signs his own name. He is 5’8” and 200#.[11]

In the 1950 federal census of Kings County (Brooklyn), Salvatore Guglielmini, 68 (b. 1882), born in Italy, married, heads a household at 16 Down Bay 40 St. with his son John, 28 (b. 1922), born in Italy, son Frank, 27 (b. 1922), born in NY, son-in-law Paul Castellano, 24 (b. 1926), born in NY, his wife Providence, 21 (b. 1929), born in NY, and daughter Marion Guglielmini, 18 (b. 1932), born in NY. John, Frank, and Paul are butchers in Paul’s butcher shop. Marion is a salesgirl in a pastry shop.[12]

Salvatore Guglielmini residing at 16 Bay 38th St, Brooklyn, NY, born 15 July 1883, is admitted as a US citizen on 20 December 1955. Salvatore signs his name.[13]
