Film producer, artist, and art director who designed the Ghostbusters logo based on a concept by Dan Aykroyd, as well as the Griswold station wagon and Marty Moose from National Lampoon's Vacation. He was also behind the infamous January 1973 National Lampoon "Death" cover.[1]
Michael Curtiss Gross, stylized as Michael C Gross, was born 4 Oct 1945 in Seattle, Washington, before moving with his parents to Newburgh, New York where he grew up.
He married Glenis Wootton (1952-2006) and they had two children.
During his career, Michael was the art director at National Lampoon magazine from 1970 to 1974, the art director at Esquire, became the personal designer to John Lennon, became a consultant to the Muppets, and was a producer or executive producer on 11 films, including Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, Heavy Metal, Twins, Beethoven and Kindergarten Cop. Gross along with Richard Edlund and Brent Boates designed the now-iconic Ghostbusters logo.
Michael C Gross passed away on 16 Nov 2015 at age 70 in Oceanside, California from cancer.[1] It is unclear if or where he was buried.[2]
