Biography

Anne Marie Grosholtz, the future Madame Tussaud, was baptised on 7 December 1761 in Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux church in Strasbourg. The baby was born on the day of the baptism. She was the daughter of Anne Marie Walder, of Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux parish. According to the midwife's report, the mother declared, while in labour, that the father of the child was Johan Grosholtz of Frankfurt (this implies that the parents were not married). The godparents were Jean Trappler and Anne Marie Logler[1].

Occupation

Sculptor

Date of birth

Marie Grosholtz's baptism took place on 7 December 1761, and the register states that she was born on the same day. Though she has a reported birth date of 1 December on several sites (including English Wikipedia and Find A Grave), the date found on her baptism, a primary source, is preferred and assumed to be correct. Marie (Grosholtz) Tussaud is Notable.
