Before John married in 1861 he was single, boarding in the household of his sister and her husband, John and Harriet 'Humm' [sic Hume] in Great Henny, Suffolk. He worked as an agricultural laborer.[4] John Hume and Harriet Groom, were married in 1858.[5]
John Ordway Groom and Emily Peak married in 1861 in Sudbury, Essex district.[6] Emily was the daughter of James Peak.[7]
In 1871 John and Emily lived in Suffolk, England where he worked as a malster. Typical work was using barley grain to make malt for the brewing industry.[8] There were no children found for them.
John died 21 December 1880 in an Essex Hospital where he had been a patient since 26 May of that year.[9] His death was registered in that quarter in the Billericay district of Essex.[10] He was buried on 24 Dec 1880 at St Peter's church, South Weald, Essex, aged 44 years.[11]
Research Notes
Parents originally attached to this profile were John GroomElizabeth Pool but evidence to the contrary was found and they were removed. John Ordway Groom was found on the GRO site with Mother's maiden name Sidey. [1] Another birth for an unnamed female child was registered in 1841.[12] As the time frame is correct for the birth of his sister Ann, it was taken to be her. Other conflicting information appeared in the 1841 census with his mother's name as Mary. The parent's ages in that census did not line up with the ages and the formerly linked parents.
