Rosa Grizzaffi is born 1 September 1805 and baptized the next day. She is the daughter of Leoluca Grizzaffi and Vincenza Vinci. Her godparents are Don Giovanni Bentivegna and Donna Carmela Bentivegna, unmarried daughter of the late Antonino.
In 1811 Rosa, age six (b. 1805) lives with her parents sotto la Candilora (under the Candilora) in Corleone.
Rosa marries Giuseppe di Puma on 1 July 1821. Leoluca and Vincenza are living.
Rosa and Giuseppe have at least seven children: Pietro (1822), Leoluca (1824), Bernarda (1827), Vito (1833), Vincenzo (c. 1835), and two sons named Salvatore (1837 and 1839).
Pietro is born and baptized on 22 August 1822, named after his paternal grandfather, as is traditional for the first born son. His godparents are Rosario di Puma and Rosaria Mannina, who are not married.
Leoluca is born and baptized on 5 November 1824, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Don Bernardo and Donna Marianna Patti, a married couple.
Bernarda is born and baptized on 16 December 1827, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Giuseppe and Cecilia Fratello, a married couple.
Leoluca dies at age six (b. 1824) on 13 July 1830.
Vito is born and baptized on 7 October 1833. His godparents are Salvatore and Paola Fratello, a married couple.
In 1834 Giuseppe, reportedly only 26 (he is likely 33), Rosa, reportedly 23 (she is 31), and their children Pietro, 11 (b. 1823), Bernarda, 7 (b. 1827), and Vito, 1 (b. 1833), live on the strada delle Candilora, between via Lombardia and the cortile di Paternostro.[1]
I estimate Vincenzo is born around 1835, twenty years before he marries.
The first son named Salvatore is born and baptized on 26 February 1837. His godparents are Giuseppe and Lucia Puccio, a married couple.
He dies on 23 September 1837 at seven months of age, the summer of the first recorded cholera outbreak in western Europe.
The second son named Salvatore is born and baptized on 16 August 1839. His godparents are Michaele Radosta and Liboria Zangara, wife of the late Michaele.
He dies on 1 September 1842, at three years of age.
Pietro dies at age 23 on 12 December 1845. He is unmarried.
Bernarda marries Mariano lo Pinto on 7 June 1846.
Vincenzo marries Anna Maria Pennino on 8 July 1855.[2]
Giuseppe dies at age 74 (b. 1800) on 28 August 1874. Rosa survives him.
Rosa dies in the hospital in Corleone on 17 April 1878 at age 74. She and her family live in the quartiere di S. Nicolo' of Corleone. A letter in the civil death record, dated Corleone 18 April 1878, on the letterhead of the Spedale dei Bianchi di Corleone, says she was suffering from an inguinal hernia and died there the day previous. According to the Church record of her death, Rosa receives last rites in the hospital, where she dies.
Bernarda dies the day after her 69th birthday (b. 16 Dec 1827), on 17 December 1896. She is survived by her husband, Mariano.
