Biography

Anthony Thomas Grippo ^[1] was born about 1870,^[2][3] in Italy.^[4]

He reportedly immigrated about 1891.^[2][3]

He married Retta Conklin.^[4] Their children include:

Allen Peter Grippo (1914-2002)

He was reportedly naturalized in 1907.^[2]

In 1920 and 1930, Anthony and Retta were living with their children in Kenilworth, Union County, New Jersey. Anthony was a real estate broker. ^[2] In 1930, they owned the house, which was worth $7,500. (They had a radio.) ^[3]

He was mayor of Kenilworth, and also reportedly a judge. ^[4]

On 3 March 1951, he died in his home, in Kenilworth, Union County, New Jersey, of arteriosclerotic heart disease. On 6 March, he was buried, in Graceland Cemetery, Kenilworth. ^{[1] [5] [4]}

   'Anthony Grippo, Kenilworth, Dies

   'Kenilworth—Anthony T. Grippo, 81, a retired real estate and insurance broker, died Saturday (Mar 3, 1951) in his home, 224 N. 20th St. He was a former mayor and judge here. He was born in Italy and had lived here 54 years.

   'He is survived by his widow Mrs. Retta Conklin Grippo; a daughter, Mrs. Louis Scheuerer of Kenilworth; and four sons, Raymond of Plainfield, Frank of Rome, Pa., and John and Allen of Wyalusing, Pa.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Peter Grippo and Dr. John Grippo of Buenos Aires Argentina.

   'Funeral services will be held in Gray Memorial Funeral tomorrow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Frank V. H. Carthy, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Cranford, officiating. Buria will be in Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth.'
