Note MI1847(Medical):The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, March 30, 1905 FANNY SMITH, beloved wife of LEFFERY D. SMITH, died at her home near Newbern on March 16, 1905, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 27 days after an extended illness. Death was due to heart trouble and a complication of diseases. FANNY GRING was born in Pennsylvania on December 19, 1827. She was married in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on December 16, 1847, to LEFFERY D. SMITH who survives her. They were the parents of twelve children, four of whom preceded her to the better land.

Two died in infancy [first baby and Mary J.] and DAVID L. died in 1873 and MANDA KISER [Sarah Amanda] in 1891. The children who survive her are ANN POUSH [Anna Rebecca Elizabeth] of New Virginia, ALICE BINGHAM [Alice Sophia] of Knoxville, WILL [William Sherman] of Newbern, GRING [Israel Gring] of Leon, MARTIN [Martin Eugene] of Belinda, LINNIE APGAR [Linnie Angeline] of Chariton, ELLEN CAIN [Martha Ellen] of Newbern, FANNY GRAVES [Fannie Elmetta] of Hartford, Kas.

In 1850 the family moved from Pennsylvania to Illinois, thence to Marion County, Iowa, in 1854 where she has since resided.

All of MRS. SMITH's children were with her during her last illness with the exception of MRS. FANNY GRAVES who was unable to be present on account of the illness of her children.

Deceased united with the Christian Church in 1869 and has since lived a true and faithful Christian life. She had been an invalid for eleven years but bore her sufferings without a murmur. She was one of those good, true women, to which the world owes so much. She was devoted to her family and friends and was loved by all who knew her. To those who mourn, the deepest sympathy of the community is extended.

From the Obituary of Mrs. Fanny Smith.

Mrs. Fanny Smith, wife of Laffery D. Smith, died at her home near Newbern, Tuesday, March 16th, 1905, of heart trouble and a complication of diseases, from which she had been a sufferer for the past eleven years.

Fanny Gring was born in Pennsylvania, Dec. 19. 1827. On Dec. 16, 1847 in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, she was married to Laffery Smith, who survives her. In 1850 they moved to Illinois and four years later to Marion county, Iowa, where they have resided ever since. She was the mother of twelve children, four of whom preceded her to the better world. The children who survive are Ann Poush, of New Virginia, Alice Bingham, of Knoxville, Gring, of Leon, Martin, of Belinda, Linnie Apgar, Chariton, Will Smith and Ellen Cain, of Newbern, and Fanny Graves, of Hartford, Kansas. All were with their mother during her illness except Fanny Graves, who was detained at home on account of the illness of her children. In 1869 deceased joined the Christian church, since which time she had lived a consistent christian life. During all her suffering she was patient and did not complain of her suffering. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and beloved by all who knew here. The sympathy of many friends is extended to the bereaved family in this hour of great sorrow.

It is reliably reported that Fannie Gring was blind 11 years before her death, however the cause of the blindness was not reported.
