Biography

Ashton Grime was born in 1827 in Little Lever, Lancashire, England to Richard Grime and Martha.

Ashton Grime, son of Richard, a bleacher, & Martha, residing at Little Lever, was christened on 8 Apr 1827 at St Peter's Church in Bolton Le Moors, Lancashire.^[1][2][3]

In 1841 Ashton Grime (age 15-19 [~14]) lived at Folds Road Moss Court in Bolton with his father Richard (45-49), mother Martha (45-49), sister Nancy (20-24), and three others: Esther Cunliffe (45-49), Mary Greenhalgh (15-19), and Nancy Greenhalgh (1).^[4]

In 1851 Ashton Grime (age 23, Bleacher) lived at Folds Road in Little Bolton with his father Richard (59, Beer Seller) and mother Martha (59).^[5]

Ashton Grime (Bachelor, son of Richard Grime) and Mary Ann Isherwood (Spinster, daughter of Thomas Isherwood) were married on 20 May 1854 at St John's in Bolton Le Moors.^[6] The marriage was registered in Bolton in the second quarter of the year.^[7]

In 1861 Ashton Grime (age 33, Beerseller) lived at Folds Road in Little Bolton with his wife Mary Ann (28) and two sons: Thos Isherwood (6, Scholar) and John (0), as well as two relatives: Mary Isherwood (55, Servant) and Samuel Kay (27, Cotton Bleach Works).^[8]

In 1871 Ashton Grime (age 44, Finisher) lived in Salford, Lancashire with his wife Mary Ann (38, Housekeeper) and five children: Thos Isherwood (16, Finisher), John Howarth (10, Scholar), Esther (5), Richard (3), and Nancy (1), as well as servant Elizabeth Entwistle (68, Domestic Servant).^[9]

In 1881 Ashton Grime (age 52, Shopkeeper (Inn)) lived at Oldfield Rd in Salford with his wife Mary Ann (48, Shopkeeper) and five children: John (20, Assistant Shop Keeper (Genl)), Esther (15, Assistant in House Duties), Richard (13, Scholar), Henry (8, Scholar), and Nancy (10, Scholar), as well as two boarders: Thomas Halliwell (25, Beer Bottler (Cellerman)) and Thomas Wood (55, Bleacher).^[10]

Ashton Grime passed away in 1884, aged 54 years. His death was registered in Salford in the first quarter of the year.^[11]
