Biography
Allen Griffin is a part of US Black heritage.
Allen Griffin was born in Sep 1851 in Alabama. His parents are not yet known, and it is likely that he was born enslaved, however, no documents have yet been found.
Allen married Mary Copeland on 28 Dec 1876 in Pike County, Alabama.[1] [2] Their children:
- Willie Griffin (1878–Deceased)
- Andrew Griffin (1880–Deceased) [3]
- Aaron Griffin (1882–Deceased)
- Ollie (Griffin) Smith (1882–Deceased)
- Ella Griffin (1886–Deceased)
- Sarah Griffin (1888–Deceased) [4]
The 1880 Census[5] shows him at age 25 with his wife and one daughter in Dixon's Beat, Pike County, Alabama. He is farming.
The 1900 Census[6] shows him at age 49 with his wife, five children, and a granddaughter in Precinct 1, Robertson County, Texas. He is a farmer. This census states that his wife is the mother of 8 children with 6 still living.
The 1910 Census[7] shows him at age 59 with his wife, son, and two grandchildren in Hamilton Township, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. This census also states that his wife is the mother of 8 children with 6 still living.
Allen died on 14 Jan 1919 in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.[8]
