Biography

Catherine was born on 15 Mar 1862 probably in New Annan, Colchester County, Nova Scotia. ^[1]

Early Life

Catherine (Cassie) Grey (15 Mar 1862-viv 1940)
She was the daughter of Samuel Grey, of New Annan, Colchester Co, NS. Before her marriage, she was a captain in the Salvation Army, and a zealous worker for God and humanity in the provinces of Nova Scotia & Newfoundland, but through ill health, had to retire from active service in the army. She had a sister in India, working as a missionary, under the direction of the Nova Scotia Baptist Board of Foreign Missions.

She was married in 1887 in Nova Scotia, Canada to Charles Edgar DeWolfe.^[2][3]

Census

The 1891 Cdn census lists Cassie as a 29 yr old NS born married Anglican living in Windsor NS.^[4]

Circa Jun 1906-Jan 1914 Cassie, Cecil and Eric appear to have left Windsor [opinion of profile mgr.] apparently living in California by early 1914.

In the 1940 United States census she appears to have been living in 44 Bradford St. Everett, Middlesex, MA and had remarried to one Gos Ward, age 64, (c1876-), Catherine age 77 (c1863) and her two sons Cecil and Eric.^[5]

Spiritualism

By the autumn 1899 she spoke in Springhill NS on the subject of "spiritual gifts, dwelling particulally upon the Gifts of Healing which she claims God had given her for the relief of suffering humanity." By the fall of 1900 she was being referred to as, 'The Divine Healer', and was at this time regularly visited by "... scores of ailing ones," from different areas of the province and who were, "...afflicted with all sorts of ailings."^[6][7]
