DORSET - Leona G. McWayne, 78, a resident of Route 30 in Dorset, Vt. died peacefully Wednesday evening, Feb. 20, 2008 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Leona was born in West Pawlet on June 25, 1929 the daughter of Herbert and Nettie (Jackson) Greene. She received her education in Salem, N.Y. schools graduating from Salem High School, class of 1947. She married Paul W. McWayne in Rupert on Labor Day in 1949. Mr. McWayne died on March 30, 1986. With her husband Paul, Leona owned and operated the McWayne Farm which is the last operating dairy farm in Dorset for 40 years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting and baking. She loved her home and cherished times spent with her family.

Leona is survived by her son Milton P. McWayne and his wife Nancy of East Rupert, her daughters; Marcia Baker and her husband Scott of Rutland and Theda Farrell of Dorset, her brothers; Ralph Greene and his companion Yvonne of Clifton Park, N.Y. and Nelson Greene and his wife Gladys of Hebron, N.Y., her sister Hazel McHale and her husband George of Rutland, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Brophy Hamilton and her brothers; Herbert P. and Vincent A. Greene.

Funeral services for Leona were held Monday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2008 at the United Church of Christ, Dorset and East Rupert. Rev. Dr. James H. Gray conducted the service. Interment will be in the spring in the family lot in Maple Hill Cemetery in Dorset.
