Original Settler of Mound Bayou
Benjamin Titus Green was one of the original founders of the first African-American Settlement in Mississippi following the Civil War.
Benjamin T. Green was born enslaved in either 1854 (Ancestry tree) or 1856 (1870 Census). He was the son of Isaac Green and Katie Jane Lewis, sister to Mary V. Lewis Montgomery. They were all enslaved on Davis Bend Plantation where Benjamin Thornton Montgomery was the trusted enslaved overseer and gifted mechanical engineer, merchant and farmer. Benjamin T. Green was a cousin of Isaiah T Montgomery and together were instrumental in the founding of the Mound Bayou Settlement.
In the 1870 Census, Benjamin is living with the Montgomerys in Davis Bend, Mississippi.[1]
He married his first wife M. Green around 1873 or before, based on the age of their son A. Green in the 1880 Census.
In the 1880 census Benjamin (age 28) was a Merchant and married to first wife M. Green (see research notes) in Beat 3, Warren, Mississippi, United States.[2] A. Green is listed as their son.
He married second, Louisa Francis on 30 November 1885 in Madison, Louisiana, United States.[3]An 1886 funeral notice (21 Dec 1886) in the Vicksburg Herald for Benjamin T. Green's late wife, Louisa Francis.[4]
Benjamin married his third wife Eva Pearl Gilbald about 1887. They had a daughter Paula Geraldine Green, b. 9 Jan 1892 and died Jan 1977.[5] and a son Eli Green, b. 5 Nov 1895. [6]
According to his will he had six children to whom he bequeathed property. They were:

- Benjamin A. Green
- Paula Geraldine Green
- Mariah Henrietta Green
His sons A. Green and Eli Green were not mentioned.
Benjamin wrote his will on 8 Feb 1896. [7][8] To see a transcription of his will: Will of Benjamin Titus Green.
He passed away on 25 Jun 1896 at Mound Bayou. He is buried in the Mound Bayou Cemetery.[9]
