John Green (1782-1833) was the eldest son of Thomas Abbott Green and Elizabeth Lamport He was born in the City of London on December 2nd 1782 and named after his grandfather John Green of Bedford, a coal and builders merchant. He was baptised on December 27th 1782 in the parish of St Martin Pomeroy, probably at the Wren church of St Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury (destroyed in 1940 during the blitz).
John became a partner in the family firm of Gold and silver smiths Green and Ward after becoming a Freeman of the City by Servitude on April 3rd 1805. After this the firm assumed the title of Green, Ward & Green. He married Mary Overton Weatherhead, on November 21st 1805 at Sedgeford, Norfolk and had seven children. John was elected to the Livery on October 2nd 1811. He died in a horse riding accident on March 11th 1833 aged 50.
