Sarah Agnes (Gray) Conley of Cove Dies

COVE - Mrs. Sarah A. Conley, 82, prominent Union County woman and descendant of Grande Ronde valley pioneers, died Thursday at a La Grande Hospital. Mrs. Conley had been in failing health for some time. Funeral services are incomplete but will be announced later by Daniels Funeral Home. Born in Lower Cove, March 27, 1879, Mrs. Conley and her husband, the late Frank Conley, are operators of one of the largest cattle and wheat ranches in this region. Her home, about three miles northwest of Cove on the main Cove highway was a landmark and surveyed the many hundreds of acres of Conley ranch land. Mrs. Conley had been extremely active throughout her life in various civic and women's clubs and was a Grange member. She is survived by three sons, Merrell, Grant and Virgil Conley, all prominent Cove area ranchers; two daughters, Mrs. Vina Ross, La Grande, and Maxine Winters, Cove; a brother, Joe Gray, La Grande; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Childers, Cove and Mrs. Eugene Millering, La Grande; and two grandchildren, Frank and Mary Jane Conley, both of Cove.
