Biography

When James Harvey Gray was born in June 28, 1854, in Mississippi, his father, William J Gray, was 22 and his mother, Sarah E McClellan, was 27. his father died in 1859 and, in 1860, his mother and brother were living with his mother's parents. ^[1] By 1870, his mother had remarried and they were living in Pontotoc County. ^[2]

He married Martha Washington Purdon in 1880. They had eight children in 13 years. In 1880, they were living in Pontotoc County and farming. ^[3] In 1900, they were living in Lafayette County and farming. ^[4] in 1910, they were living in Tallahatchie County and farming on rented land. ^[5]

He died November 20, 1910, at the age of 56.
